2017 Environment and Emergencies Forum Chair’s Summary now available

The 2017 Environment and Emergencies Forum (EEF) Chair’s Summary is now available here.

The 2017 EEF took place from 26 September to 28 September 2017 at the UN Gigiri compound in Nairobi, Kenya. Participants joined us for three days of interactive dialogue, inspiring sessions and networking opportunities. The Forum was a unique opportunity to discuss global policy, share experiences and knowledge, forge new partnerships and agree on key actions related to environmental emergencies.

The Forum brought together approximately 100 practitioners from around the world to showcase innovations in environmental emergency preparedness and response, and to highlight current efforts on integrating environmental risk in humanitarian action. Participants met representatives from governments, UN agencies, industries, academia, aid agencies, and civil society. EEF partakers came from a broad background but shared the objective to improve environmental emergency preparedness and response, environmental management, disaster risk reduction and humanitarian action.

Hosted by UN Environment, the Forum explored the nexus of environmental risk and humanitarian crisis against the backdrop of other trends such as urbanization and industrialization. It provided a platform for taking action to address the environmental dimensions of emergencies.
