Following a chemical fire on 28 August 2017 at the Nairit plant in Yerevan, Armenia, the UN Environment/OCHA Joint Unit, coordinated the deployment of three international experts to support the assessment of chemical hazards. The experts provided assistance to national authorities in reviewing the situation which led to the emergency at the plant, evaluating the current risk posed by the plant, and in developing recommendations for preventing and mitigating the risk.
These experts were provided by the (European) Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) and Switzerland.
