The JEU is celebrating its 20 year anniversary!
By EEC on 01 Jul 2014
Tuesday 1 July 2014 marks the 20 year anniversary of successful cooperation between the United Nations Environment Programme and the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
Since its establishment twenty years ago, the Joint UNEP/OCHA Environment Unit has responded to environmental emergencies and supported preparedness activities in 85 countries around the world. This successful partnership of OCHA and UNEP has enabled countries to prevent and mitigate the harmful impacts of disasters and emergencies to the environment, the health of populations, and to their livelihoods. The past twenty years has seen an increasing emphasis placed on preparedness, as well as on response, while the sustainability of humanitarian action has also come into focus, and the Joint Unit has been involved all the way. A truly joint office with experts from both agencies, the Joint Unit brings together environmental and humanitarian expertise and represents the bridge between these two worlds. JEU is looking forward to another 20 years of successful partnership between environmental and humanitarian worlds.
