Wetlands International – Water Shocks: Wetlands and Human Migration in the Sahel

This report was produced by the Wetlands International with the intention of presenting the case of improving the condition of the wetlands of Sahel, as part of a strategy to address human migration and its links to the degradation of land and water resources, poverty, conflict and climate change.

It offers an analysis of the key trends and issues and their relevance to existing policy goals. The purpose of this report is to highlight to policymakers the relationships between the health of wetland ecosystems, management of water resources and human migration in the Sahel region of Africa.
